I found this while looking for a picture of the "Draw a Door" scene which is my favourite part, and I've often fantasised about being able to draw a door and escape to another world. I found your picture and got sucked into reading the whole article! I never really counted the amount of portals/ stages of existance there are in the movie, and now I just want to watch it all over again. Your analysis of the characthers is spot on. Great work.lunke13noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20081408.post-24373459685023360612010-10-29T05:44:52.906-07:002010-10-29T05:44:52.906-07:00I've seen BEETLEJUICE in the neighborhood of 1...I've seen BEETLEJUICE in the neighborhood of 150 times

Does it keep getting funnier, every. single. time. you see it?

And I agree with the others: I have to watch again with some of these geospatial vs interpersonal ideas in mind.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20081408.post-91895745208306905202009-10-14T14:48:13.993-07:002009-10-14T14:48:13.993-07:00That was a great analysis and summary of the "...That was a great analysis and summary of the "plot". I was doing a visual search on Sandworms from the movie and started to read. I couldn't stop and was surprised that it was so long and still very insightful. Great job!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20081408.post-37325051315338178872008-05-05T21:36:00.000-07:002008-05-05T21:36:00.000-07:00I came across this page in a similarly arbitrary f...I came across this page in a similarly arbitrary fashion, searching for the exact wording of Juno's quote about Beetlegeuse not working "well with others".

I ended up reading the entire essay. It really is a phenomenal analysis. I've watched Beetlejuice more times than I can remember, but rarely all the way through in one sitting. Now, I WANT to go back and watch it in it's entirety, since this critique has given me a lens through which to view the thematic consistencies in what I confess I always saw as a wonderful but almost impenetrably chaotic movie.

PS: The reason I was looking for that quote was to check a reference in mc chris's Beetlejuice tribute song. You might enjoy it, it's on mc's MySpace listed as "secret song": http://www.myspace.com/mcchris

Annotated lyrics are up on my site: http://www.geekanerdblog.com/2008/04/shrimp-glove-face-plant-mc-chris-pay.htmlAHRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17574842519173037510noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20081408.post-71893369786365085682007-10-04T22:03:00.000-07:002007-10-04T22:03:00.000-07:00Thank you Nick. The conventional wisdom is always that Tim Burton's films are so idiosyncratic and half-baked that at best they make an "internal" kind of sense... but nobody seems willing to unravel exactly what's happening in that internal logic.

Besides, I've seen BEETLEJUICE in the neighborhood of 150 times; after that, any movie's bound to take on a life of it's own, since it's pretty much got a permanent residence in your brain.Chris Stanglhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06300723935864517305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20081408.post-16312688133652581442007-09-23T18:02:00.000-07:002007-09-23T18:02:00.000-07:00that was fantastic. i could not believe, first of ...that was fantastic. i could not believe, first of all, the sheer fact that you had written an entire analysis of beetlejuice... and i couldn't stop reading. that had to have been a good twenty minutes. well done.

i came across your post while searching for the phrase "talking marcel marceau statue". before that, i had read an article about marcel marceau THE MIME who just passed away. i had never understood the joke before.

- Nickelnickrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14098594341903928893noreply@blogger.com
